Rose buddies Childcare recognises that parent/carers are their children’s first and continuing educators and we believe that children benefit most from nursery education and care when parent/carers and the nursery work together in partnership. This will result in having a positive impact on children’s

development and learning.

(EYFS)

Parent/carers are very welcome to stay with their child for as long as they feel is necessary during the settling in period and other times. It is a good opportunity to get to know the nursery staff and the nursery day. We ask that parent/carers stay with their child for at least part of the first settling session. The best way to settle a child into the nursery will be agreed between the parent/carers and the nursery depending on the child, their age and experience. We offer an initial settling in session and then decide in partnership with parents how many additional settling in sessions we feel the child may need.

We are committed to ongoing dialogue with parent/carers to improve our knowledge of the needs of their children and to support families.

Helping in the nursery

Part of the nursery ethos is to work in partnership with parent/carers and this can involve participating in the nursery day. We recognise that you are all busy people and it may be that you cannot offer any or very little time, this is perfectly understandable. However, if you would like to help, please be assured that you will always be welcome. In line with our Safeguarding / Child Protection Policy and Procedures no adult, who hasn’t been DBS checked, will have unsupervised access to the children while they are at the nursery.

We also invite parents / carers / siblings / grandparents / aunties or uncles into nursery once twice per year for a bring your grown up into nursery day. As well as regular open days to see changes to the setting and have a chat with the staff on a more informal basis.

We welcome parents / carers who would like a voluntary placement within our nursery to gain invaluable experience.

Some examples of things that would be beneficial to us that you may be happy to do:

  • Read/tell stories to one or two children,

  • Sing rhymes

  • Play alongside children at the: dough table, car mat, train truck, puzzle table or in the role- play area etc

  • Play games such as Lotto or dominoes with small groups of children,

  • Share any skills, knowledge and or interest’s you may have e.g. playing musical instrument, reading stories or singing songs in English or in other languages,

  • Demonstrating and talking about any relevant hobbies or interest’s,

  • Helping with art and craft activities, sewing, woodwork, use of tools for making and designing, dancing cooking or computer skills,

  • Helping us in the garden with planting and maintaining the areas,

  • Helping to clean and mend equipment and tidying up areas etc,

  • Supplying us with ‘junk’ from home for the children to use in their model making and newspapers.

  • Bringing in items of interest to show others and collections of natural things e.g. leaves, shell’s, conkers etc.

  • Sharing with us children’s news for our displays e.g. family outings, holidays, visit’s to the dentist etc.

  • Helping out at social events, staff and group meetings. We welcome the contributions of parent/carers, in whatever form these may take.

What we will aim to provide for you

Newsletters

We give parent/carers information in termly newsletters and notices about: nursery dates, special days we are going to acknowledge and or celebrate and reminders on nursery practice, policies and procedures, as required. Plus information about any planned focuses, giving some examples of what we are planning to offer the children along with a couple of ideas of how parent/carers can support children’s learning. We also email parent newsletters and display them on our website. If you do not want to be contacted by email please let a member of staff know so we can remove your email address from the group.

Daily Information

Daily photo’s are taken of activities, story and circle times, special events etc. and are displayed on walls. This is supported by written information about what we have been doing.

Please note that all photos of the children are taken with one of the nursery phones or tablets for the sole purpose of providing daily information for parent/carers or evidence of children’s learning and development for their Learning Journeys. The nursery cannot provide any parent/carer with copies of any photos taken at the nursery.

We value all children’s work and contributions, and display their work (reflecting a range of abilities) through-out the nursery, please take time to view the displays.

Within your child’s communication profile, you will find details of what they have eaten throughout the day, sleep times, nappy changes and any accidents or injuries.

We have a book loan scheme. The lending library allows you to change your child’s book once per week with a book of your child’s choice. In order to keep the books in good condition they are kept in a basket that is only put out during scheduled drop off and collection times and to keep track of them we fill in the sign out sheet. Please read to your child and talk to them about pictures and discussing feelings, characters, settings and events. Please write a comment in their reading record.

We hope you will make use of this service and enjoy the stories that we have on offer!

Sharing information about the nursery

The nursery encourages feedback from parent/carers on our practice and procedures, verbally through day to day communications and via online consultations. After each termly assessments parents are asked to provide a comment and feedback on their little ones learning and any suggestions they may have for us.

Shared record keeping

The children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. Our key person system enables staff to plan a curriculum to meet the needs of individual children.

In order for staff to develop their knowledge and understanding about each child we welcome information from parent/carers about their children’s play, interests and achievements in our All About Me’s. You are the experts on your children and you will always know more about them than we do. If you can share something of what you have seen your child/ren do and say it would really help us to help your child/ren develop and learn at nursery.

We share written information about Schematic Play (a schema is a pattern of behaviour) with all parent/carers. With the aim of developing a mutual understanding and a shared language about what children are showing interest in, in which we can exchange information and understanding about the children. You can help us by telling us what your child/ren show interest in, fill in the provided six weekly All About Me’s at home sheet, write down a few notes, take photos and bring examples of their drawings, paintings etc. We will gain from information shared and it will help us to plan how best to meet the children’s needs.

We will provide all parent/carers with information about their children’s development and learning. Teachers/key persons will collate information on children’s interests and achievements gathered through observations, photos and examples of children’s work, we encourage parent/carers to look at their child’s file at any time and contribution any information to them. These are the children’s evolving ‘Learning Journeys’.

At regular intervals teacher/key persons will assess the information gained about children’s, interests and achievements and identify areas of learning and development to focus on during the term, this practice will continue until the child leaves the nursery. At the end of the term before children enter school or leave the nursery, teachers/key persons, using information gathered in children’s files, will fill in a transition document. This form identifies the levels within the Foundation Stage that are currently being planned for the child. Once parent/carers have seen the form and made optional comments, it is sent to the child’s school to assist the reception class teacher in planning for the children’s needs. Children’s Learning Journeys files will be given to parent/carers when their child leaves the nursery. Key workers meet with teachers from Reception Classes in schools to ensure a smooth transition.
