We recognise that children develop at their own pace and some beyond their expected progress for their age. As such we have allowed a ratio of rising 2 year olds to merge with our preschool of 3 and 4 year olds in our Sunflower room to allow children to flourish and transition when academically ready. 

 

Our pre-school offers a large open space designed to encourage exploration and free flow. All resources are within reach and children are able to explore and join activities as they wish. We promote independence allowing children to lead song time, look after their room and complete self care routines independently. While a wide range of resources are always available for children, staff plan activities to extend learning throughout all seven areas of development. Children transition up to school confident, independent and ready for new challenges.

The room is sectioned into sections to support different areas of learning. Our home corner is always popular and allows children to use their imagination and role play skills. We also have our malleable area where the children have access to playdoh alongside tools and loose parts to incorporate. This is fantastic for building hand strength ready for writing.

We have recently introduced a designated role play area to allow staff to set up targeted role play scenarios which will be changed weekly. Examples of these are a doctors surgery, shop or dentist. This allows the children to use their real life experiences in the setting to share with their friends and prepare them for future experiences in the real world.

A daily tuff tray will be set up for the children to explore sensory play and to explore different textures. This will often be alongside craft activities. Our beautiful reading corner give the children a quiet area to develop their interest in books and for staff to be able to read stories to the children.

The children also have a mark making area where there are resources to support their Maths and Literacy development. There are resources accessible to encourage independence in their learning with staff to support this curiosity.

Sunflower room has 3 child size toilets and sinks to allow children to gain their independence with their self care in preparation for school. There is also a changing station if needed.
